Furniture Makers establishes sea cadet affiliation with Maldon and District Sea Cadets

We have formally established an affiliation with a sea cadet unit, marking an important milestone in the Company’s long tradition of supporting the Armed Forces.

On Thursday 23 July, Immediate Past Master Debbie Johnson and liveryman Gary Sprawling attended the evening parade at Maldon and District Sea Cadets, where Debbie presented the unit with a Bond of Affiliation, officially beginning the relationship between the livery and the Essex-based cadet unit.

The new affiliation expands The Furniture Makers’ Company’s military links and reflects its commitment to supporting organisations that help young people develop confidence, resilience and valuable life skills.

Speaking at the presentation, Debbie Johnson said: “Youth cadet organisations play a vital role in helping young people develop confidence, teamwork, leadership skills and a real sense of belonging. They provide experiences that not only enrich young lives but also help prepare cadets for future education and careers.

“We are delighted to establish this affiliation with Maldon and District Sea Cadets. It is an exciting opportunity for The Furniture Makers’ Company to support the next generation, encourage personal development and build a lasting relationship with a remarkable organisation that shares many of our own values of service, commitment and excellence.”

Liveryman Gary Sprawling has been appointed liaison officer for the affiliation and will coordinate activities between the Company and the cadet unit.

Plans are already in place to involve the Sea Cadets in several Furniture Makers’ events and traditions, including providing a carpet guard at the Master’s Installation, attending a mess dinner and introducing a Cadet of the Year Award to recognise outstanding achievement within the unit.

Gary Sprawling said: “I’m looking forward to building a strong and rewarding relationship with Maldon and District Sea Cadets. There are many opportunities for us to work together, and I hope our support will help create memorable experiences for the cadets while strengthening the bonds between our organisations.”
