Squadron Leader Lawrence ‘Swifty’ Swift of The Furniture Makers’ Company’s affiliated XXV (Fighter) Squadron has been presented with the prestigious Pilot of the Year Award in recognition of his exceptional leadership, instructional excellence and outstanding contribution to training the next generation of UK military fast jet pilots.

The award was presented by the Master of The Furniture Makers’ Company, Jessica Alexander, during the Company’s June Court Lunch at Furniture Makers’ Hall, London, on 16 June.

Presenting the award, the Master said: “It is with great pride that we recognise Squadron Leader Lawrence ‘Swifty’ Swift as the recipient of the Pilot of the Year Award. Throughout the past year, Swifty has exemplified the very highest standards of professionalism, dedication, leadership and flying excellence on XXV (Fighter) Squadron.”

Squadron Leader Swift has distinguished himself as an exceptional A Category Flying Instructor, consistently delivering the highest standard of instruction to both trainee fast jet pilots and junior flying instructors. His expertise and commitment have played a vital role in preparing the next generation of fighter pilots for both the Royal Air Force and the Royal Navy during a period of unprecedented demand for frontline fast jet aircrew.

Alongside his flying responsibilities, Squadron Leader Swift has served as Executive Officer of XXV (Fighter) Squadron, balancing significant command and leadership duties with an extensive instructional workload. Managing operational commitments while leading the squadron through an exceptionally busy year has demonstrated his remarkable professionalism, resilience and ability to inspire those around him.

The Furniture Makers’ Company has enjoyed a close affiliation with XXV (Fighter) Squadron for many years. The annual Pilot of the Year Award recognises an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the squadron through exceptional flying ability, leadership and dedication.
