East of England Region – Sailing Day on the ‘Thalatta’ Old Thames Sailing Barge
Join us aboard Thalatta, a superb example of a fully rigged traditional spritsail barge, built in Harwich in 1906. With her massive oak frames, iroko planking and largely unaltered character, she offers a rare opportunity to experience one of the last wooden coasters that once carried 150-ton cargoes under sail to ports across Britain and the Continent. Further information can be seen here.
Weather permitting, embarkation would be at 9.30am from Ipswich Beacon Marina where parking is available with return to the Marina for 4.30pm.
The day will include refreshments and a sit-down lunch below while underway. Their policy is that, if possible to sail, everyone is encouraged to help the crew handle the vessel from setting sails, steering, handling lines etc. Of course, basking on deck watching the beautiful Rivers Orwell and Stour and Harwich Harbour pass by is a perfectly acceptable option!
Alcohol is not included but you are free to bring whatever takes your fancy, their policy is alcohol consumption is carried out in moderation and not on deck.
The cost of the day will be £95.00 per head (includes VAT). Only 12 places are available on this lovely day out so please register your interest to sally@furnituremakers.org.uk as soon as possible.
