It is now two years since the unveiling of the blue plaque at Furniture Makers’ Hall to commemorate the site of the first RNLI offices in 1824. To continue this association the Royal National Lifeboat Institution have invited us to visit the Tower Lifeboat Station, The RNLI’s busiest station.

ITINERARY:

  • An illustrated talk giving an overview of the RNLI, its history, operations and Tower Lifeboat Station in particular.
  • A station tour conducted by crew and former crew members.
  • Q&A session about the RNLI on the River Thames.
  • The visit takes approximately 90 minutes.

Location:

Confusingly nowhere near the Tower of London! 

The address is Tower Lifeboat Station, Victoria Embankment, Westminster, London, WC2R 2PP. 

It is on the north embankment of the Thames to the east of Waterloo Bridge in front of Somerset House.

The nearest tubes are Embankment and Temple.

Meeting point:

Top of the downstream ramp (entrance furthest from Waterloo bridge)

Please note:

Flat shoes required for all visitors.

Accessibility –Not suitable for impaired mobility.

No children under 5.

The presentation includes real-life incident recordings  – viewer discretion is advised.

PRICE: Expected donation of £15 per person to the RNLI – details will be given on booking.
