Young furniture maker exhibits at New Designers
A young furniture maker who won an award from The Furniture Makers’ Company in 2015 exhibited at the New Designers show last week as part of the show’s One Year On feature.
A BA Product and Furniture Design at Kingston University and Wood Machining City & Guilds at Chichester College graduate, Charles Dedman is a furniture designer-maker working out of a shared workshop in Emsworth on the south coast.
In July 2015 Charles exhibited his Turner Carver Chair at the New Forest Show. The chair features simple dowel construction and steam bent components
He received high praise from The Furniture Makers’ Company and was awarded first place in the ‘Best Furniture’ category and second place for ‘Best Craftsmanship’.
A year later and Charles was invited to exhibit at the One Year On feature at New Designers – an event that showcases the fresh-thinking and innovation of 3,000 individuals, providing an essential pipeline of new talent into the UK’s creative industries.
One Year On is a destination feature within New Designers that presents young, entrepreneurial designers who are in their first year of business.
Charles showed his Turner Range comprising of the Carver chair, stool and table, which has been manufactured by chair makers Sitting Firm since October 2015.
New Designers was held at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London 29 June – 2 July 2016 and again from 6-9 July 2016.
