A delightful story reached us about a class of 10-year-olds who learned how to make a three-legged stool each at the Goodlife Centre in London.

The children came from Cathedrals school in Southwark, where deputy headmistress Alice Rees wanted to bring “making” back into the school as part of the new Key Stages 1 and 2.

A three-legged stool was chosen for the project as it is an ancient piece of furniture and a forgiving design, which stands upright on any surface.

The children threw themselves into the five weekly two-hour sessions, thrilled to drill holes for dowels and use the bandsaw  and tenon saws with some one-to-one supervision.  No-one got injured in the process and they were delighted with the end results.

The stools are all named and dated under the seat and will go on show at the Goodlife Centre for the children’s families to admire.
