Three furniture makers were honoured for their contribution and achievements to the industry as part of the Master Certificate Scheme at a ceremony in the City of London last month.

The Master Certificate Scheme, run by City of London livery companies in partnership with City & Guilds, recognises excellence and promotes career progression from Apprentice to Journeyman and Master level.

The three furniture makers who were awarded were:

  • Alistair Minus, Apprentice Furniture Maker
  • Joseph Draper, Journeyman Furniture Maker
  • Peter Quin, Master Furniture Maker

In order to qualify for a certificate at any of the three levels, the winners had to provide evidence of having achieved an appropriate level of responsibility and technical knowledge in their sector and given support to those pursuing a career in the industry.

The ceremony took place at the Mansion House on 27 March.  A total of 14 livery companies participated with 43 recipients awarded: 25 Master, six Journeyman and 13 Apprentice certificates.

Speeches were given at the event by The Lord Mayor of London, The Rt.Hon. Alderman Nicholas Lyons, Kirsty Donnelly MBE, CEO of City and Guilds and Tony Ward, chairman of the Construction Livery Group.

Tony Attard OBE DL, Master of The Furniture Makers’ Company, said: “It was an honour for me to present a Master, Journeyman and Apprentice certificate to three exceptional furniture makers. Congratulations to them all.”
