Master Ben Burbidge was in attendance at the end of year show of Warwickshire College’s Level 2 and 3 City and Guild Furniture and Wood Machinery students earlier this month.

During the event the Master announced Richard Stappleton as Warwickshire College’s winner of our Schools Design Prize.

He also got the chance to meet with students Liam Marley, Philipp Stummer, Alexander Manville, Jade Yeomans – all recipients of bursaries from The Furniture Makers’ Company.

A number of other awards were given out at the event:

  • Andrew Varah Award for Outstanding Student: Richard Stappleton
  • The Axminster Tools and Machinery Award: Thomas Ferguson.
  • Gordon Russell Design Award (design category): Phillip Stummer
  • Gordon Russell Design Award (oustanding cabinet making category): Phillip Stummer
  • The Paul Roden Memorial Trophy: Alexander Manville.
  • Whitmore Timber Award: Phillip Stummer

The public will have the opportunity to view some of the Level 1, 2 and 3 students’ work later this week at an exhibition at the Gordon Russell Design Museum in Worcestershire.

The exhibition is open from 22 July to 12 August, Tuesday to Sunday 11am to 5pm.

The ticket price is £5 for adults, £1.50 for children 12 and over, and under 12s go free.
