Successful launch event for Wales Region
Our new Wales Region launched in February with a successful gin tasting event attended by around 30 people.
The inaugural event took place on Thursday 13 February at the historic Hensol Castle, bringing together members of the local furniture trade to celebrate this exciting new chapter.
The evening began with a welcome drink in the Castle’s Courtyard Room, where guests enjoyed a delicious black cherry cosmopolitan before descending into the Castle’s cellars. Here, the attendees were treated to a fascinating insight into the history of gin and the rich past of the 17th-century castle, presented by the charismatic host, Hugo.
Guests then visited the botanical room to explore a diverse range of gin flavouring options before heading into the speakeasy bar for a tasting session featuring two of Hensol Gin’s signature flavours. The event concluded with a valuable networking opportunity, where local retailers, suppliers, and industry professionals mingled alongside Brian Ahern, the Master of The Furniture Makers’ Company, and Jonny Westbrooke, CEO.

Emma Leeke, managing director of well-known department store retailer Leekes and chairman of the Wales Region, said: “We had a lovely, well-attended event at Hensol Castle to launch the Wales Region. We look forward to planning the next event for later in the year and will be sharing details shortly.”
The Master said: “The launch of the Wales Region marks an important milestone for The Furniture Makers’ Company as it expands our reach and engagement within the UK furniture industry. Thank you to Emma for a wonderful first event. We look forward to supporting other events in the future which will offer new opportunities for networking, collaboration, and fundraising within the region.”
