On the first day of Spring, St David’s Day, a group of members from the South East Region gathered for a memorable clay shooting day, held in perfect weather conditions. The event was designed to introduce beginners to the sport, offering a hands-on learning experience in a safe and supportive environment. Some of the members with shooting experience were able to improve their technique further.

The participants were guided by two enthusiastic and experienced instructors, Will and Sam, who provided clear instructions, tips, and encouragement throughout the event. Their expert guidance allowed everyone to quickly grasp the fundamentals of clay shooting, or improve their existing skills, while ensuring safety was always a top priority.

The weather played a key role in making the event even more enjoyable, with bright sunshine and mild temperatures creating an ideal atmosphere for outdoor activities. The combination of perfect conditions, passionate instructors, and eager participants made the day a huge success, with everyone leaving with a sense of achievement and greater interest in the sport.

Following the shooting the members reassembled at a local hostelry, where they were joined by some partners who had enjoyed a visit to nearby Wakehurst, home to the Millennium Seed Bank, and a 500 acre wild botanic garden.

Over a convivial lunch all agreed the day was a fantastic experience, fostering both camaraderie among livery members and enhancing the ability to participate in future shooting events. Thanks are due to the South East Region chairman, Graham Marley, for his organisation of the day.
