A record-breaking 200 applications were received for the Young Furniture Makers Awards this year.

Students and graduates were submitting entries for the three core awards – Bespoke Award, Design Award and Textiles Award – right up to the deadline on Friday 16 June.

The top 100 pieces were shortlisted on Thursday 29 June by an expert judging panel, including: Alan Styles, managing director of Axminster Tools; Paul Salem, head of design and engineering at NaughtOne; James Ryan, manager of the Edward Barnsley Workshop; Helen Welch, founder of the London School of Furniture Making; and Freya Whamond, a bespoke maker who won the exhibition’s Best in Show award in 2018.

The shortlisted pieces will be invited to the Young Furniture Makers exhibition on Wednesday 11 October at Furniture Makers’ Hall and the Dutch Church in Austin Friars, London.

We are very grateful for sponsorship from TIZO, Axminster Tools, NaughtOne, CBS, HIX and Sittingfirm at Gaze Burvill.
