Positive feedback to ‘Routes to a Stronger Workforce’ event
We were delighted to welcome around 30 delegates to our ‘Routes to a Stronger Workforce’ event in July.
The half-day conference, which took place on Thursday 6 July (10.30am – 2.30pm) at Furniture Makers’ Hall, London, was the second event organised for HR professionals working at furniture and furnishing businesses.
The conference started with Jo Goga, welfare officer at The Furniture Makers’ Company, giving a presentation on the financial grants available to people in the furnishing industry.
On second was Dr Lia Maragou from Mental Health Innovations, a digital charity that harnesses the power of technology to create innovative solutions for mental health challenges, who gave a presentation on the Shout crisis text service and how to support mental health in the workplace.
After a break, Emma Welch, HR director at Ocee International, hosted a session on how to implement a wellbeing programme.
Next up, Chris Hyde, education and training chairman at The Furniture Makers’ Company, and Alex Crofts, member of the education and training committee, gave presentations on our new education strategy and the upcoming launch of MyFurnitureCareer.org.uk, a new recruitment and training website launching this autumn.
MyFurnitureCareeer.org.uk, which is being developed by The Furniture Makers’ Company, will offer businesses operating in the UK furniture and furnishing industry a specialist recruitment and training website where companies can advertise job vacancies for free and have access to a comprehensive directory of training providers to upskill employees.
The event finished with lunch and networking.
Jonny Westbrooke, CEO of The Furniture Makers’ Company, said: “Our second HR conference provided what we believe is a much-needed forum of networking and knowledge exchange for this vital business function in the industry. Guests heard from a selection of industry experts who gave excellent insight and advice on how to improve recruitment, training and wellbeing at their workplace.”
