The Parliamentary petition opposing the EBacc and its exclusion of creative subjects has been successful and has hit the target of 100,000 signatures needed to trigger a debate in Parliament.
Securing this vital opportunity is more fantastic news and couldn’t have been done without the support of people and organisations who value the teaching of Creative Arts in schools. In particular a subject extremely relevant to the future of the furniture industry, Design and Technology, is under threat.
What happens next?
At this stage, we do not know when the debate will take place and we will update you as soon as we know.
But you can still help while we wait. Everyone with an interest in maintaining the teaching of creative subjects can write to their MP and ask them to share their concerns with ministers. You can also and arrange to meet them at one of their local advice surgeries to raise your concerns.
And, when the debate happens, everyone should speak in support of creative subjects and the creative industries.
