Billy Quinn, Director of CCUK and liveryman, talks about his involvement with The Furniture Makers’ Company.

What was your first job connected to the furnishings sector?

I’ve worked in the industry for around 30 years ago, starting my career in MFI, which was at the time the UK’s largest domestic retailer of kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms as well as a seller of upholstery, beds and lounge furniture. I have worked in many roles since then, including store manager, divisional sales director and head of installations.

When did you first get involved with The Furniture Makers’ Company?

I joined as a corporate member in 2011, following an invite to get involved from the clerk and CEO of the Company, Jonny Westbrooke.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I ever received was from my Granny. She used to say, Love many, trust few; always paddle your own canoe – good advice!

What do you see as the benefits of being involved in The Furniture Makers’ Company?

There are numerous benefits of being part of the Company, but the opportunity to better our industry, whilst helping those who work or have worked in it through welfare is what interests me.

What is your favourite thing about the furnishings sector?

The people that serve it and the tenacity of those individuals to get the job done.
