This week marked the start of the 2019 Young Professional Industry Experience – our three week intensive programme where aspiring young people are given the opportunity to visit and understand all areas of the furniture industry, including materials, designing, manufacturing, pricing, marketing, sales, and customer service.

Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll introduce you to the 2019 group and find out a bit more about them.

Week one, day three, meet Kieran Gunn who works in Technical Support at Ercol.

What attracted you to the company you work for?

I secured what I thought was a temporary role at Ercol, but as I progressed within the company, I became interested in the machining and programming aspects of furniture manufacturing, which lead me to my current role in Technical Support.

Tell us one thing you love about the company you work for?

I love the team I work with and their relaxed nature.

What’s your career goal right now?

I am hoping to be responsible for looking into new technologies or material that could benefit the company with increased or smarter production and manufacturing, while also supporting the design team by expanding the potential for new and innovative furniture designs.

Which company are you most looking forward to visiting on the YPIE programme?

I am very interested in seeing how Blum, Parker Knoll and Herman Miller run their manufacturing factories and their automation processes.
