It’s the second week of the 2019 Young Professional Industry Experience – our three week intensive programme where aspiring young people are given the opportunity to visit and understand all areas of the furniture industry, including materials, designing, manufacturing, pricing, marketing, sales, and customer service.
This week the young professionals are visiting Howdens, DFS, Cabinet Maker, Parker Knoll and Blum.
Today we meet Josh Stancer, who works as business development and trainee veneer specialist at Mundy Veneer.
Describe yourself in three words
Enthusiastic, motivated and personable.
What attracted you to the company you work for?
There is lots of variety within the veneer industry. I have been able to work with a natural material and gain an understanding of each unique characteristic that this product has to offer while seeking to provide effective solutions to a diverse market.
Tell us one thing you love about the company you work for?
I am able to undertake a range of responsibilities such as picking samples, selecting veneer, working with small bespoke cabinetmakers to discussing high end projects across the world. The diversity across Mundy Veneer provides me with an exciting environment that truly means every day is different.
What’s your career goal right now?
I want to enhance my comprehensive knowledge of wood species and their idiosyncrasies, which will give me a basis to develop a career with a dynamic and unique trade.
Which company are you most looking forward to visiting on the YPIE programme?
I’m keen to have exposure to Herman Miller and Ercol. I’m interested to see how their processes’ and techniques are applied and how they utilise resources to meet customers’ needs. I hope the YPIE programme will provide me with a new perspective on the furniture trade.
