The Guildhall, situated in the City of London, marks the official starting point for our #Ldn2Bdx cyclist’s adventure.

After a commemorative photo or two the team, led by Master Ben Burbidge, will commence their journey at 8am, crossing the Thames via Southwark Bridge and catching glimpses of The Shard.

With its 87 storeys and standing at 310 metres it stakes a claim as Europe’s tallest building and will be the first of many impressive sights and landmarks that our intrepid riders will enjoy during their journey.

Taking care to avoid deer and other cyclists, the group will head through Richmond Park, after which a pleasant riverside route leads us away from Kingston Upon Thames and into the quiet leafy lanes of the Surrey Hills.

After reaching Guildford, the cyclists will press on into the South Downs National Park, passing through the pleasant Hampshire market town of Petersfield and onwards into the beautiful country lanes and chalky hills of Meon Valley.

At Cobham the cyclists will pick up another Sustrans route, allowing them to avoid busy traffic and delivering us safely to the ferry terminal in Portsmouth, where they will catch their ferry to St Malo and the start of day two.

Check back tomorrow for the next stage of the group’s trip and join in the conversation on Twitter with #Ldn2Bdx.
