Lance corporal honoured at October court meeting
Lance Corporal Samuel Woods of infantry unit 2RIFLES was recently honoured at our October court meeting where he was presented the Company’s ‘Best Young Rifleman’ medal.
The Furniture Makers’ Company is proud to support our armed forces by being affiliated with 2nd Battalion The Rifles. The Company’s historical ties with the forces date back to 1989 when the Bond of Association was made between the Company and The Royal Green Jackets, who in 2007 became a part of the new regiment – The Rifles.
Sam was nominated by C Company as the best rifleman last year. He was presented with the medal by Master Dids Macdonald OBE at our court meeting on Thursday 3 October at Furniture Makers’ Hall.
Formally a rifleman, Sam was promoted to the rank of lance corporal the week before he received the award.
A citation read out by Master Dids Macdonald OBE at the ceremony said: “He has had an outstanding year which saw him deploy to Sierra Leone on a jungle exercise and also to Kenya as part of the 2RIFLES Battle Group. He is highly regarded amongst his peers who routinely look to him for advice and guidance. He was a standout nomination for the company on the recent Fire Team Commanders Course, and all those within the chain of command (including those of different platoons).”
