Furniture Makers to hold next sustainability event focussed on ecodesign

We are hosting our next sustainability event on the issues surrounding ecodesign, including the implications of the new EU law, Ecodesign for Products Regulation (ESPR).

The seminar, which is sponsored by Blum UK, will be held on Wednesday 3 July at Furniture Makers’ Hall, London. Organised by The Furniture Makers’ Company’s Climate Change and Sustainability committee, the event will provide delegates with the opportunity to listen to presentations from the British Furniture Confederation as well as sessions from industry experts discussing circular design; product circularity assessments and carbon measurement; and the evolving requirement for digital product passports.

The event will conclude with a panel discussion with committee members considering the implications for manufacturers and suppliers across furniture, fabrics, and bedding as well as a question-and-answer session.

Joanna Knight, chairman of the Climate Change and Sustainability Committee at The Furniture Makers’ Company, said: “The industry must start considering the implications of the EU’s Ecodesign for Products Regulation. Aside from this and other additional anticipated legislation, we can’t afford to ignore the continuing focus on the circular economy.

“Consumers and corporate customers are recognising that the throw away culture cannot continue. Ecodesign is the lynchpin of the circular economy and companies cannot ignore this fundamental shift. We must challenge our short-term thinking; design for reuse over multiple lifetimes; design for disassembly; and design out waste. This event will provide the opportunity to discuss the opportunities and challenges with representatives from across the furniture and furnishing sector.”
