The Master and Wardens of The Furniture Makers’ Company braved the rain on Saturday to welcome in the new Lord Mayor of London, Charles Bowman.

The 802nd Lord Mayor’s Show took place on Saturday 11 November.

Mr Bowman succeeds Lord Mayor, Dr Andrew Parmley, and become the 690th person to hold the position. In the role, he will meet government representatives from around the world, look to strengthen economic ties with the UK, identify new business opportunities and position the UK as a top global destination for foreign investment.

Since 1215 every newly-elected Lord Mayor has been required to travel through the winding medieval streets of the City of London to Westminster to swear loyalty to the Crown.

This year at the parade there were over 7000 participants, 20 bands, 150 horses, hundreds of other carriages, carts, coaches and other vehicles including vintage cars, steam buses, tanks, tractors, ambulances, fire engines, unicycles, steamrollers, giant robots, helicopters, ships, penny-farthings, beds and bathtubs.

Master Dr Tony Smart MBE, Senior Warden Hayden Davies and Junior Warden Dids Macdonald of The Furniture Makers’ Company took part in the modern livery companies procession.

Elsewhere Immediate Past Master Ben Burbidge, with other Past Masters, was part of a procession of 24 traditional Thames boats from London livery companies and port authorities travelling behind the Lord Mayor up the Thames in QRB Gloriana.
