We would like to congratulate Furniture Makers court member and Guild Mark Chairman Rupert Senior for being awarded first place in the Open Competition of Pewter Live 2017 for his Transition Table.

Now in its 29th year, Pewter Live is organised by The Worshipful Company of Pewterers, with the event taking place at the Company’s Hall during London Craft Week (9-13 May).

For 2017, the Pewter Live sub-committee devised a brief for the Open Competition which asked entrants to produce a pewter item, or range of pewter items, that would complement a contemporary lifestyle, made of mixed materials, with at least 50% being constructed of pewter.

The Transition Table is a dual-function dining and work table for a contemporary home. It is made in oak with a central revolving leaf that has a different surface finish on each side: oak on the dining side and a polished and lightly patinated pewter work surface on the reverse.

Rupert was presented with the prize by Nick Crean, chairman of the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust, on Thursday 25 May.

Commenting, Rupert said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have been named winner of the Open Competition of Pewter Live – it’s a great honour. The Transition Table is a product designed specifically with contemporary compact living spaces in mind and would lend itself to volume production by a high quality precision manufacturer.”

Rupert is one of the UK’s foremost bespoke furniture designers and makers. Rupert’s goal is to create unique furniture with a simplicity and honesty of form and proportion using outstanding British craftsmanship and superb materials.  He finds the design process a particularly exciting moment, often exploring opportunities for innovation in response to the way people live today.
