Fourth Inspiring Makers’ Conference set for May

The advent of AI, gender inclusion, diversity and sustainability are some of the key themes covered at this year’s Inspiring Makers event.

Inspiring Makers is taking place 9am-5pm on Thursday 8 May 2025 at Guildhall, Bath and is generously supported by Artichoke, The Furniture Makers’ Company, Axminster Tools, Halstock, Ergochair and Sykes Timber.

With a line-up of thought-provoking talks and panel discussions from leading voices in the design and making industry, the day aims to inspire future generations of craftspeople to promote hand skills and preserve the legacy of craft.

Now in its fourth year, the not-for-profit day, previously called the New Makers’ Conference, is organised by world-class interiors brand Artichoke and The Furniture Makers’ Company.

With the decline of the UK’s master furniture makers from 90,000 to 1,000 over past 150 years, Inspiring Makers offers a unique platform for emerging talent to connect with peers as well as some of the UK’s influential experts. Attendees can expect engaging topical discussions with this year’s speakers including:

• Bruce Hodgson, founder of Artichoke
• Sean Sutcliffe, founder & chairman of Benchmark
• Camilla McLean, managing director, Greg Stone, creative development lead & Katy Thompson, junior furniture maker/finisher at Matthew Cox
• Selena Bolingbroke, principal of The Building Crafts College
• John Orchard, chief executive of Woodland Heritage
