More information about the four designers is below.
Tube Line by Lou Corio Randall – Kingston University
Tube Line is a new approach to street furniture. Designed to prove that the objects that line our city’s streets can be exciting and engaging as well as functional. This bench and bike rack is formed from one single continuous curved line. This simple visual language of a single line can be used to form a wide range of different objects.
Hiatus by Molly Mason – Kingston University
Hiatus is a middle space between focus and comfort. The modular design explores the big change in people’s working habits. Offering a compact landscape to enable users to work on their tablets – at home, work and in public spaces. With its soft upholstery and form Hiatus offers maximum seating comfort while still enabling a good headspace for a temporary work set up – a design philosophy that engages with the user.
The Arc Range by Francesca Rossi – Bath Spa University
The Arc range incorporates high quality natural materials with a broad block of colour. The large arched leg hides an additional shelf, keeping all your bed/sofa-side essentials hidden from view. Francesca was driven by an interest in visual language when designing this table range which concluded in subsequently moving away from the archetypal design. Francesca currently works work The Furniture Makers’ Company as Marketing & Communications Assistant.
The How chair by Felix Smith – Northumbria University
The How chair is an upholstered ash framed chair. The components sit, slot and combine in a way that looks comfortable even before the user takes a seat. With rounded edges, soft forms and subtle detailing in both soft and hard materials, the intention has been to create a visually and functionally inviting piece of furniture.
