Election of the Sheriffs
Liverymen were treated to a refreshing view of democracy in action at Guildhall this week.
It was the annual election of the Sheriffs of the City of London. Following the colourful procession of the robed Masters, Prime Wardens and Upper Bailiff of the 110 City Livery companies, preceding the Corporation Officers and finally the Lord Mayor, the election took place with the Sheriffs, Aleconners, Bridgemasters and Auditors all being elected without contest unanimously!
Furniture Makers then made their way to the Hall where the Master, Tony Smart, MBE, hosted a lunch together with our guests the Master and liverymen of the Worshipful Company of International Bankers.
During the lunch we were honoured with a visit by Sheriff-elect Alderman Tim Hailes, an International Banker and his supporter Fiona Adler, and we were able to wish them success during their year of office.
This was an enjoyable City occasion with the opportunity to meet old friends and make new acquaintances.
