Guildhall Yard was filled with liverymen on one of  the hottest days of the year on 25 June.

It was the annual election of the Sheriffs of the City of London. Unusually this year it was a contested election with four candidates standing for two posts, and this attracted many more liverymen to Common Hall than usual, with overflow rooms being used alongside the Great Hall.

Following the colourful procession of the robed Masters, Prime Wardens and Upper Bailiff of the 110 City Livery companies, preceding the Corporation Officers and finally the Lord Mayor, the election took place by a show of cards with different colours for each candidate.

Following the count it was announced that Alderman Vincent Keaney and The Hon Elizabeth Green were declared elected as Sheriffs.

Furniture Makers then made their way to the Hall where the Master, Hayden Davies, hosted a lunch together with our guests, the Master and liverymen of the Worshipful Company of International Bankers.

This was, as usual, an enjoyable City occasion with the opportunity to meet old friends and make new acquaintances while maintaining the City traditions
