The CALLUM Lounge Chair
Name of Designer:
Ian Callum, CBEThe CALLUM Lounge Chair, inspired by the iconic Eames Lounge Chair and Ottoman, takes a fresh approach to create an elegant and efficient ‘lightness’, both physically and visually. Floating wooden forms are connected by a modern, minimalist skeletal structure of carbon fibre and steel. Combining beauty with a focus on ergonomics, the result is a refined and supremely comfortable statement piece of furniture for the home or office.
The CALLUM Lounge Chair features an exposed carbon fibre ‘spine’ structure in twill weave. The seat, back and ottoman have a moulded plywood shell encased in a sophisticated and warm smoked eucalyptus veneer, which is finished in the finest bespoke luxury leather trim. The star-shaped base is cast aluminium that has been finished by hand to complement the colour of the carbon fibre spine.
Each chair is hand crafted to the customer’s requested colour and finish specification, with two heights available to ensure ultimate comfort. Ian Callum and the CALLUM team have curated a selection of ten leather options, with customers having the freedom to handpick their desired leather from an infinite colour palette should they choose.
Inspired by seeing a Jaguar E-Type, Dumfries-born Ian Callum knew he wanted to design cars from a young age. His passion has led to prolific designs, including the Aston Martin Vanquish and DB7, along with the Ford Puma and Escort Cosworth. During two decades at Jaguar he created, amongst others, the F-Type, F-PACE, C-X75 concept and the World Car of the Year Award-winning I-PACE.
In 2019, Callum helped found CALLUM, the eponymous design and engineering business that has since produced a number of own-brand automotive and lifestyle products as well as white-label products for prestigious clients. Amongst these is the Aston Martin CALLUM Vanquish 25, which features 350 design and dynamic changes from the original that Callum penned over two decades earlier.
Callum’s design collection has led him to being one of the most respected and celebrated British car designers. Recognising this, GQ named Ian Callum its Car Designer of the Year at the 2021 GQ Car Awards.
