Description

The Lines Puzzle Cabinet was designed to be a sculptural piece of wall art disguising a functional cabinet with 24 innovatively hidden drawers.  Made from English rippled ash and 5000-year-old English bog oak which together add fractal depth to the design.

Each hand fitted drawer features hand cut dovetails with custom designed brass and stainless-steel hidden locking mechanisms.  Unlocking the drawers is only easy when you know how.  One particular sequence involves removing a drawer and reinserting it upside down to unlock a separate hidden compartment.  In total there are around 1000 components which took over 500 hours to design, make and assemble.

About

Multi award-winning designer-maker Josey Garbutt (24) is one of the UK’s most promising young designer-makers.  He fostered a passion for creative processes and craftmanship from a very young age and by sixteen he had designed and built his own workshop where he taught himself to make furniture.  After completing a Fine Art Foundation at the University of Creative Arts, Farnham, Josey went on to attain a First Class BA Honors Degree at Rycotewood Furniture Centre, Oxford.  Josey’s combined interest in maths, engineering, nature and fine art heavily influences his designs which appear simple but are complex in design.
