Welfare support
One Step at a Time
We want your help in stopping our welfare support being the best kept secret in the industry.
Supporting the industry One Step at a Time
One Step at a Time is about reminding individuals and businesses that for more than a century The Furniture Makers’ Company has cared for the people who work or have worked in the industry.
We have been supporting industry workers, past and present, since 1903. Today we provide financial assistance to workers within the industry through grants that can go towards essential household items or bills, funeral expenses, property repairs, disabled and medical equipment, respite or convalescent breaks, general financial hardship or pre-tenancy costs and removal costs.
One Step at a Time is challenging companies in the furnishing sector to raise awareness of our occupational welfare support so every industry colleague knows where to turn in times of financial need.
We want 100 companies to sign up as One Step Champions by May 2020.
What happens once you have signed up?
Our One Step Champions will be given the tools and information they need in order to understand what our welfare support can achieve and – vitally – to spread that message to colleagues, employees and industry peers.
What you'll receive
On signing up, champions will receive
• Regular information on the grants staff may be eligible for
• Posters and support cards to promote our message
• A certificate of participation
• PR and social media coverage
What you'll receive
Our very experienced welfare officer, Sue Dean, will also contact our One Step Champions about setting up a meeting where she can explain our service in more detail. We can even set a drop-in clinic at your business for employees to understand how we can be of assistance.
