Description

A concise brief from my customer led to this pedestal-like table using details from my pre-existing ‘Blagr’ chair design in local white ash.

12 veneer panels on the table-top alternately have the end grain from a through tenoned leg or rib.

The 6 ribbed structure under the table visually fills in the spaces between the legs required in the clients brief while allowing plenty of room for feet under this 6-seat table.

The wider veneer panels on the table are sawn from the top of the seat and flipped end to end book matching the chair seats to the table-top.

A carefully considered three ply construction forms the sculpted chair seats with the tapered cross-section of the legs carried through both chairs and table.

About

Uncompromising on excellence and sustainability, Daniel works solo – predominantly with self-harvested windblown timbers, using neither CAD or CNC tooling – preferring an intuitive and emotive handcrafted approach to his timbers and designs.

From his atelier by the River Esk, he continually strives for perfection, creating for (and with) his clients, functional works of art suited to both modern and traditional settings.

Away from his studio, Daniel works as trustee and volunteer with the local environmental projects that are so important to him.

His mission statement from when a student at the internationally renowned Parnham College – remains true today:

My aim is to produce work of the highest quality: both in design and craftsmanship: work which exceeds my clients’ expectations and makes them ask,

“how did you do that?”
