Description

This is the second iteration of a console that has evolved from a table I developed in the 90’s. The design exploits contemporary techniques, whilst retaining the traditional handwork, which is characteristic of the finest bespoke furniture, and includes the precision fit of the hand dovetailed drawers, the handling of the veneers and the ebony corner stringing.

Veneer work features extensively in my work.  This is an ‘engineered’ Italian poplar veneer which is produced by rotary cutting the log. The resulting veneers, died natural and bleached, are laminated into a large block which is sliced, to produce the final veneer.

The selection of this veneer, its grain pattern giving the appearance of textile, is fundamental to the design as is the ebony edge detail which defines the form
