Visit to Highgrove Gardens and Furniture Workshops
Liverymen and guests were privileged to visit the gardens and workshops at Highgrove, the private residence of Their Majesties, The King Charles III and The Queen Camilla. Since 1980, when His Majesty first arrived at Highgrove, he has transformed the gardens around the house.
For security reasons photography is not allowed, but experienced guides took us on a tour to discover the history and unique organic management of an inspiring series of gardens.
Following the tour we visited the workshops housing the Snowdon School of Furniture where we were able to meet students and discuss the Create programme, which aims to educate and train graduate furniture design students in the value of wood as a sustainable material for the production of beautiful design-led furniture. Our tour coincided with an exhibition of the School’s alumni work at the Garrison Chapel, Pimlico.
The images, of one of 10 Coronation Chairs and a set of coffee tables incorporating Highgrove themes in veneers, all produced from English wood, are shown with acknowledgement to the exhibition.
This visit, rounded off by a champagne reception in the Highgrove shop, was another excellent occasion offered by The Furniture Makers’ Company to its members.
