The National Bed Federation (NBF) is the recognised trade association representing UK manufacturers of beds and their suppliers. Founded in 1912, our members today account for about 75% of the total UK bedding turnover. We set the standard by driving ethics, transparency and responsibility. It’s about creating a level playing field that’s fair for everyone! We also own Bed Advice UK, a website dedicated to providing consumers with professional, unbiased and generic advice on everything they need to know about beds, to help them navigate their bed-buying journey.

The National Bed Federation has been a proud supporter and bronze sponsor of our Step 2 It campaign throughout the year.

Why did the NBF want to sign up as a sponsor of the Step 2 It campaign?

Through our close relationship with NBF manufacturer and supplier members, and bed retailers via our NBF Retail Champions Scheme, we had a real insight into the struggles many in the trade have faced.

Whether people have been financially impacted due to personal health relating to COVID-19, unanticipated furlough or having to close businesses entirely, it has been warming to see the furniture industry as a whole come together to support those in need.

Of the events that have taken place throughout the year, which has been your favourite and why?

When we first heard about bed manufacturer member Harrison Spinks’ Ruairi Giles running the Virgin Money London Marathon in aid of Step 2 It, we were keen to support him. At the 2021 Bed Show’s Gala Dinner in September, we provided guests with the opportunity to donate to Ruairi’s fundraiser ahead of his incredible efforts the following month – we’re very proud!

We couldn’t choose just one event, however. We were equally delighted to see component supplier member Handy Ltd rolling up their sleeves to hold a 24-hour table tennis tournament in aid of the charity. A big well done to both NBF member companies for their fantastic efforts.

How do you think the campaign has gone?

We’re delighted to see The Furniture Makers’ Company smash its target of raising £250,000 in the Step 2 It campaign. Seeing the furniture trade unite for one common cause has been wonderful, and we hope the campaign has also helped raise awareness of the crucial work the charity does.
