Pi Stool
Name of Designer:
Simon CassThe ‘pi stool’ was first designed and manufactured in 2001 by Simon Cass, and is the prototypical stool in the extended pi collection. A contemporary take on the Danish modern style and deriving from the honest simplicity of Japanese forms, the ‘pi stool’ perfectly melds both form and function. Texture and colour inform the aesthetic. The rigid oak frame contrasts the soft give of the woven seat creating a balance between structure and comfort. The woven seat was inspired by Hans Wegner’s ‘Round Chair’ with an intentional gap where the legs and cross rail intersect the frame. This modern detail is a departure from traditional chair seats by highlighting the craft in the joinery.
