Liveryman presented with Legion d’Honneur
We would like to congratulate liveryman Arthur Henscher for being awarded the Legion d’Honneur, the highest French order of merit for military and civil merits.
Arthur was presented with the honour last year by French president Emmanuel Macron for his significant contributions in 1944 during World War 2.
Arthur was first lieutenant and second in command on Royal Navy Landing Craft Tank 1315, which was responsible for landing nine tanks on Juno Beach, one of five beaches of the Allied invasion of German-occupied France in the Normandy landings.
The beach spanned from Courseulles, a village just east of the British beach Gold, to Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer, and just west of the British beach Sword.
Arthur was a part of 12 further cross channel trips.
In celebration of this significant achievement, Arthur will be invited to a future court lunch so the Master can personally congratulate him.
Dids Macdonald OBE, Master of The Furniture Makers’ Company, said: “To have received France’s top valour award for military distinction, service and mention in dispatches is the highest accolade of which you and your family must feel very proud, as do we at the Furniture Makers. On behalf of the Furniture Makers, may I extend my sincere congratulation – what a well-deserved honour.”
