Members of The Furniture Makers’ Company were delighted to attend John Hampden Grammar School’s first ever Design Technology Awards Evening earlier this month, celebrating the fantastic work of the secondary school’s budding furniture makers.

The event, which took place at the school in High Wycombe on 1 July, displayed work from GCSE and A Level students to parents, teachers, students and other guests, including Master Dids Macdonald OBE and Senior Warden David Woodward.

The school presented its own awards to students from Year 11, 12 and 13, but The Furniture Makers’ Company also gave two awards, which were sponsored by Past Master Tony Smart MBE and presented by the Master.

The prizes were two £50 Axminster Tools & Machinery vouchers, which were awarded to James Essex (Year 13), who is hoping to study mechanical engineering at Loughborough University, and Daniel Hatfield (Year12).

Both Daniel and James have been invited to show their work at the Young Furniture Makers exhibition on 9 October 2019 at Furniture Makers’ Hall in a special area dedicated to John Hampden students.

John Hampden receives aid as part of The Furniture Makers’ Company’s Supported Schools initiative.
