Central Compliance UK joins The Furniture Makers’ Company as corporate supporter
The Furniture Makers’ Company, the City of London livery company and charity for the furnishing industry, is delighted to welcome Central Compliance UK (CCUK) as its newest corporate supporter.
CCUK is a provider of UKATA-approved and accredited Category A Asbestos Awareness training courses. It is run by people who are passionate about addressing the lack of knowledge and awareness around the risks of exposure to asbestos.
By signing up a corporate supporter, companies can get involved in the furnishing sector to directly participate in the industry’s only charitable organisation. Each corporate supporter has the opportunity to nominate one corporate freeman.
Billy Quinn, managing director of CCUK and admitted corporate freeman, said: “By joining The Furniture Makers’ Company as corporate supporters, we hope to reach a wider audience with our drive to make people aware of the dangers posed by asbestos. We know that the Furniture Makers does great work with its own educational programme and we think this aligns with our drive to do the same.”
Dids Macdonald OBE, Master of The Furniture Makers’ Company, said: “We are very pleased to welcome CCUK as corporate supporters. Our corporate supporters are of the greatest importance to us – and to the future of furnishing. We are delighted that so many different companies from the wider furnishing industry understand the importance of joining as members and supporting our charitable endeavours. All members, individual or corporate, are invited to participate in the many events in the city livery calendar, which are great for networking, entertaining, as well as having fun.”
CCUK has launched a free, online Schools Asbestos Awareness training for students – the first in the UK – as current statistics suggest that more than 80% of schools in the UK still contain asbestos, with an average of 17 teachers dying each year from asbestos related illnesses.
Jonathan Coulson, chief marketing officer of CCUK, said: “As the single greatest cause of work-related deaths in the UK more needs to be done to raise awareness about asbestos. So many young people, students and even those in employment will have no idea what it is or the health hazards it poses.”
CCUK has already partnered with leading organisations to raise awareness of and, where possible, to mitigate the risks of asbestos. Its partners include Certsure, the British Institute of Kitchen, Bedroom and Bathroom Installation (BiKBBI), and The Furniture Ombudsman.
