This week marked the start of the 2019 Young Professional Industry Experience – our three week intensive programme where aspiring young people are given the opportunity to visit and understand all areas of the furniture industry, including materials, designing, manufacturing, pricing, marketing, sales, and customer service.

Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll introduce you to the 2019 group and find out a bit more about them.

First up is Carl Sunderland a CAD technician at Parker Knoll.

Describe yourself in three words.

Dependable, Systematic, Efficient

What attracted you to the company you work for?

Parker Knoll was just moving into a brand new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and I could see that there were plans to expand and develop the business in the future. I was also interested in my specific job role as it allowed me to begin implementing and building on the skill set that I had picked up during degree.

Tell us one thing you love about the company you work for?

The variety of opportunities and channels I’ve been able to explore. Working on shows, photography, and business development projects, alongside my role within the Development Department.

What’s your career goal right now?

To continue to help improve on the development process and broaden my knowledge within the upholstery industry.

Which company are you most looking forward to visiting on the programme?

I’ve heard from previous course attendees that the Blum tour is really interesting.
