Two expert speakers confirmed for Frederick Parker lectures
The art of laminating in furniture design and a biopic of a textile legend are the subjects of next month’s annual Frederick Parker Lectures.
The lectures will take place at 6.00pm on 28 March at Furniture Makers’ Hall, London and will be followed by a wine reception and optional three course dinner.
This year’s lectures will be:
Marc Fish – Laminating – A Serious Approach to Cutting and Sticking
Based at Newhaven, East Sussex, Marc runs the Robinson House Studio where he designs and makes some of the most inventive furniture on the current scene which he has shown internationally, as well as teaching furniture making to private students.
He has gained five Bespoke Guild Marks over the past 10 years and is chairman of the Bespoke Guild Mark, awarded by The Furniture Makers’ Company.
Sam Reich – Tibor Reich, Life’s Rich Tapestry
Tibor Reich was a pioneering textile designer of the mid-century, introducing dramatic patterns and bold colours into furnishing fabrics which lit up some of the most influential interiors of the post-war era.
His textiles were used in Clarence House, many ocean liners, the Festival of Britain, Concorde and by firms including Ercol and G-Plan.
The firm closed in 1976 but his grandson, Sam Reich has been inspired by the rich archive and important legacy to bring the Tibor Reich brand back to life. Sam will talk about his grandfather’s achievements and his own mission to relaunch this once-famous textile house.
Tickets to attend the lecture are £20 (inc VAT) or £80 (inc VAT) for the lecture, reception and dinner.
The proceeds of the event will be donated to the Frederick Parker Collection, our unique and outstanding educational resource spanning over 300 years of British furniture making and design.
The collection comprises over 200 chairs, together with an archive of related historical documents and artefacts and became part of The Furniture Makers’ Company in 2013.
It is housed at London Metropolitan University and available to view by appointment.
