The festive season is almost upon us and while it’s a time of celebration and great joy for many, it can be a difficult period for some with unforeseen expenses resulting in escalating and crippling debt.

The Furniture Makers’ Company, the City of London livery company and charity for the furnishings industry, is appealing to anyone working in the UK furnishing industry who is struggling financially to get in touch about applying for financial aid.

The charity has been helping industry employees for more than 100 years. Today the organisation supports current or former workers and their dependants who have fallen on hard times.

Grants can be awarded for essential household items or bills, funeral expenses, property repairs, disabled and medical equipment, respite or convalescent breaks, general financial hardship or pre-tenancy costs and removal costs.

Jonny Westbrooke, CEO at The Furniture Makers’ Company, said: “No one ever sees themselves getting to the point where they’ve exhausted all other options available to them and are on the brink of despair. One seemingly insignificant problem causing a second issue to arise, which is then compounded by another.

“If you work in the furnishing industry and are going through tough times financially, don’t suffer in silence, the charity is here to help.”
