Meet the makers exhibiting at Evolution of Tradition: Waywood
Evolution of Tradition, a new exhibition of contemporary bespoke furniture designed by some of the UK’s most distinguished craftspeople, takes place from 2 until 5 October this autumn at Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour. The exhibition represents an exciting collaboration between The Furniture Makers’ Company and Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour, the world’s premier design destination.
Fifteen makers, including Waywood, are exhibiting 28 pieces at the exhibition.
Waywood combines the varied skills of four craftsmen, with backgrounds and influences as diverse as fine art, green wood sculpture, pure cabinetmaking and design, boat building computer-aided design, and CAD/CAM manufacturing.
A collaborative design process and approach to problem solving allows a wealth of options for design and making solutions.
Waywood’s designs reflect the personality of the client. Those that want the excitement of adventurous surfaces and forms commission some of their more sculptural work. Others require quieter and more subtle pieces, which nonetheless continue to reveal new pleasures to the client for many years.
Waywood’s furniture has been gracing personal and public spaces-from offices to cathedrals and bedrooms to bars-for nearly 30 years.
