Freeman and Design Guild Mark holder designs sculpture for mental health
Freeman and Design Guild Mark holder Steuart Padwick has launched a crowdfunding campaign to build a nine-metre high sculpture of a wooden head that will raise awareness of mental health during next month’s London Design Festival.
The aptly named Head above Water sculpture has been designed in support of the Time to Change Campaign, run by charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness.
With one in four people a year being affected by mental health illness, it is hoped that this campaign will bring the issue to the forefront.
The sculpture will be located on Queen’s Stone Jetty at the South Bank, during the London Design Festival, as part of designjunction, which commences on 15 September.
The project has already received celebrity endorsement from the likes of Sir Jony Ive, Sir Terence Conran, Niamh Cussack and Kevin McCloud.
Senior curator at Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Helen Pheby PhD said: “Head above Water by Steuart Padwick is a highly engaging work that prompts vital thinking around mental health – congratulations to all involved.”
