It’s the final day of the bike ride, but before the riders cycle in to Bordeaux to a heroes welcome, they have a tough 80 miles to go. They will start the day by catching a ferry from Royan’s small riverside harbour to Le Verdon on the Medoc peninsula, just across the Gironde river estuary.

Once over the river they will reassemble before setting off on a cycle path, part of the EuroVelo cycle network, on an old disused railway through a peaceful pine forest.

The cycle path leads them to Souillac sur Mer, another pleasant seaside resort situated on the Cote d’Argent. They’ll stop for a coffee at one of the town’s many seafront cafes and admire the impressive war memorial and the monument to the Statue of Liberty, which was docked there just prior to making the journey to New York.

From Souliac, they cross to the eastern side of the peninsular to pick up, initially, the Route de la Riviere, a scenic road which later transforms into the Route des Chateaux and leads them deep into the heart of the Medoc wine region.

After lunch, which they take in Pauillac, they follow the course of the Gironde as it leads them through innumerable vineyards all the way to Bordeaux, the end destination.

Arriving in the city, they will ride along the riverside promenade to the Qui Louis XVII and then finally on the Place des Quincones, which will mark the official finishing point of the #Ldn2Bdx adventure and the start of some celebrations.
