The famous Aakash Restaurant in West Yorkshire – the largest Indian restaurant in the UK – was the setting of our first ever curry evening fundraiser last night (18 May).

More than 80 people, including industry colleagues, friends and family, attended the evening with guests enjoying a drinks reception followed by a three course meal in the Cleakheaton restaurant’s impressive function room.

Master Ben Burbidge was in attendance at the event and the evening also included a guest speech from Baroness Sayeeda Warsi.

In addition to raising £1,500 for the charity, the evening also acted as the official launch of our Yorkshire and Central regional committee.

Chaired by Fara Butt of Shire Beds, the new regional committee aims to raise vital funds for our charity and host networking events for local members of the furnishing industry.

Fara said: “On behalf of the Yorkshire and Central region and The Furniture Makers’ Company, I want to thank everyone who attended and made the first ever event a tremendous success. This is one of many events that we have planned for the future to support our industry’s charity.”
