Members of Malaysia’s timber industry found out about how education in the furnishing sector works during their recent visit to the UK.

The group from MITB (Malaysian Industry Timber Board) and WISDEC (Wood Industry Skills Development Centre) visited the Rycotewood Furniture Centre at City of Oxford College to find out more about teaching and training in the sector.

They met Paul von der Heyde, Master of The Furniture Makers’ Company at the time of the visit, and also visited industry sites such as Benchmark and the Sylva Wood Centre.

Chris Hyde, Head of Learning – Technology, Design and Creative at Rycotewood commented: “It is a pleasure to share our experience with the MITB and WISDEC team.  We see this as the start of a successful international partnership.”

The Rycotewood Furniture Centre has been highly respected in the industry for over 75 years with its students winning numerous prestigious awards at national competitions.
