The Inspired 2015 selling exhibition of contemporary furniture and modern silver is a unique collaboration between The Furniture Makers’ Company, the furnishing industry’s charity, and the Festival of Silver organisation, held at the Goldsmiths’ Centre in Clerkenwell from 19-21 May, during Clerkenwell Design Week.

The Furniture Makers’ Company represents many of the UK’s finest contemporary bespoke furniture makers, while Festival of Silver brings together the best designers and makers of modern contemporary silversmithing in Britain. The leading exhibition sponsor is The Goldsmiths’ Company. The new exhibition room at the Goldsmiths’ Centre is the perfect setting to display these contemporary crafts together.

The idea behind the exhibition is to inspire collaborations, such as ‘Wave’, made by the silversmith Rebecca Hill inspired by ‘Waterfall’, the magnificent cabinet designed by Martin Grierson and carved by Georgy Mkrtichian, see image above.

Similarly inspired was the designing and making of the LoMo sideboard and matching tea-tray by Jonathan Walter of Bark Furniture, for the tea-service commissioned by the Inspired exhibition organisers from award-winning silversmith Charlotte Tollyfield.

Gordon Hamme, the organiser of the exhibition, said: “We are bringing together two of Britain’s most innovative artisan industries to make a stunning selling exhibition. Both organisations work hard to raise the profiles of these great makers.”
